Last week my friend Andrea from Uskar-vor-inspire.blogspot.ca and I went to The Art of Romance at The Rosewood Hotel Georgia to see the debut of Jason Matlo’s 2012 Bridal Collection.

The atmosphere, the venue and the gowns were breathtaking and truly reflected the Art of Romance. It felt like we were at the cathedral watching the beautiful bride elegantly poised, walking down the aisle.

On site doing hand and back massages were the staff from Sense – A Rosewood Spa and the Hotel’s spa line: Beauty Through Balance which featured local West Coast ethically harvested ingredients. Also on site was Tiffany & Co, showcasing beautiful engagement jewelry and everyday pieces. Shoes were provided by Town Shoes and hair and make up was done by Lizbell Agency.

As soon as I heard Lori Nuic’s sophomore album, Flaws of Attraction, I realized that this record what exactly what my music collection had been missing. Her lyrics are timeless, musicality is effortless, and before I knew it, I was completely wrapped up in this album.  And for those reasons alone, I know I will find myself putting it on repeat regularly.  From beginning to end, Nuic is able to create a connection with the listener that makes you feel as though she is the room with you, rather than on the other side of a set of speakers.  After listening to Flaws of Attraction, it quickly became obvious that Nuic is a talented artist, and nothing short of vocal virtuoso with the way that she takes the listener along the journey with her.  Of course, this is only further established with the raw honesty in her writing; she takes a brave stance on love and heartbreak, which sets the tone for the record.  Nuic’s lyrics and vocal abilities are all complimented by her soulful sound that weaves it’s way through Flaws of Attraction creating a truly fluid album where each song fits together and forming a story.

Ever wondered what would happen if a group of talented musicians, a film crew and a green couch hopped on a train bound for Toronto and played shows along the way?  Well, that is exactly what the Green Couch team is hoping to do with their new project, Tracks on Tracks.  On June 8th, a group of musicians and filmmakers will board a train in Vancouver headed for the North by Northeast conference in Toronto for June 12th.

The main goal of Tracks on Tracks is to create a documentary that showcases Canadian talent, through the shows they play along the way on this truly unique tour.  Originally, Michy and Jon, the pair behind the Green Couch Sessions, had planned to take their green couch across the country and showcase artists in their hometowns.  However, this idea quickly developed into something that was so much more when the duo pitched the concept to VIA Rail, and were offered a generous sponsorship to travel eastward by train.

Along with the help of CBC Radio 3′s Grant Lawrence and his listeners, Tracks on Tracks will showcase many Canadian artists such as Adaline, The Belle Game and The Matinée.  This collection of artists will be performing on the train, stopping to play secret shows at stations along the way, and wrapping it all up in Toronto!

Ok, so we might of misled you with the deceiving headline. But to be honest, we literally ‘pounced’ on the opportunity to chat with this Canadian top charting hip hop artist. We sat down with Dru last weekend to talk about his work, achievements, and claim to fame.

Though most are familiar with his current solo singles “Ride In” and “Getting it In,” Dru has made his mark in entertainment scene, first debuting with R&B group In Essence. Since then, he’s extended his work to artists overseas, giving him a broader perspective on how to approach international markets.

“It opened me up to being not so focused on the US. For years it was all about getting a US deal, and if you don’t have that, you ain’t doing sh*t. But now there’s the UK, there’s Asia, there’s so many other ways to come back to the US through other territories, so that’s definitely opened up my thinking.”

With a Juno and a Much Music Video Award (MMVA) already under his belt, this Toronto based hip hop artist has kept the momentum going, getting heavy airplay with his current dance anthem “Getting it In.”

And despite all his success, Dru remains a humble and well seasoned artist, successfully satisfying the masses, all while maintaining artistic integrity, by sticking to his roots.

“My core is R&B and Soul. But sometimes you have to open up and pay attention to what the masses are gravitating to. I put out songs like “Seasons” and “Stay with Me” and those R&B Ballads did great for me. But when I did songs like “Getting it In,” that’s when it kind of blew through the roof. So I kind of have to pay attention to that. You have to pay attention to what the masses want, and gel that into what what you’re trying to get at, at the same time.”

Dru recently wrapped up a show at Blvd 22 here in Vancouver. His favourite part about the city?

“I love the mountains, I love the whole outdoorsy vibe. There’s some hot girls in Vancouver…I just have to make that point. And I love the vibe that people have here for music.”

Located on Hamilton, West of Davie in Yaletown is Shoe Phix. Shoe Phix boutique features all kinds of hand picked shoes, fashion jewelry and (tonight) art from local artist Sarazen Brooks.

Tonight was a special Girls Night, with hair and make up consultation from Chau of Icon Hair Lounge and sterling silver jewelry from Bonnie of Silpada Designs and complemented with sangria & mini cupcakes.

I had my eye on these sparkly, studded Sam Edelman pumps and studded flats for spring/summer. Rock star, man eater studs are my spring/summer statement piece. What’s yours?

Last weekend Victoria and I visited the Wine & Shine at Juvelisto in Steveston. Vicky asked me what I was going to get my Mom… and I had no idea what she meant by that. Whooops, I forgot Mother’s Day is on Sunday May 13th, and it’s coming up quick!
