Review of the American Apparel 2011 Warehouse Sale

Shop ’til ya drop? Or straight-up flop?

The line-up to pay snaked down this table of accessories.

Never had I ventured to an AA Warehouse Sale. Friends’ stories were enough to keep me away from the crowds. I had heard that prior to this year’s AA Warehouse Sale, worthy garments were slim pickings (think boxes of torn items in offensive fluorescents in XXS or XXL), and not at the bargain prices I’d be willing to endure.

But I digress. These are primary sourced opinions of which, to be honest, aren’t the most reliable.

I had a change of heart this year in large part to a post on Eudora’s personal blog and posters on campus around my school. I went to the Vancouver Convention Centre with my brother and was immediately overwhelmed by the size and organization put into the whole set-up. There was a good selection, staff on hand, appropriate signage, bins, racks and designated areas for trying things on. Tables were spread with inventory and there was no line-up or admission fee to get in! Lots to explore.

I really wanted these tights - $6 apiece!

Being pressed for time, my only regret was not heading out sooner and not taking more pictures. My brother and I both found things we liked, but the line to pay was what kept us from spending our dough. I will definitely be going next year if the venue looks as promising as this year’s. My only dislikes would have to be the long cash line-up and the music. It was a little too obscure-hipster, and just a little too loud.

Happy Mothers Day to all our fabulous Moms!

Rebecca…the new Black?

We’ve all heard it already. (It’s way past Friday.) Rebecca Black, overnight Youtube sensation’s, 42 million-hit “Friday.” The dangerously catchy, thin lyrics – “Friday’s after Saturday” – have garnered more Youtube attention as-of-late than Lady Gaga and the Biebs. Some fear that she may replace Justin Bieber. Naturally, the haterade’s being served up by the barrel.

After seeing Ms. Black on Leno earlier this week, I was able to step back and observe it for what it is: a please-don’t-take-me-seriously tune performed by a who is she? 13 year-old. So take it easy. Why not have fun with it? Others have. Below are links to my favourite “Friday” parodies (ironically via the 13-yr olds in my life).

“Which one is my right hand? Which one is my left hand? Gotta make my mind up – Which one is my hannnd?”
