Modline Concert Picks: Week of May 1, 2011
May is here! Which means spring tours galore!
Here are the Modline Concert Picks for the Week of May 1st 2011!
May 3/4– Pixies @ The Orpheum Theatre
The lo-fi alt-rock champions from the late 80s/early 90s come to Vancouver on their much acclaimed Doolittle tour. Chances are, you can expect cuts from their other records somewhere in the set, but really, watching Frank Black/Black Francis scream every word on Doolittle is more than a reason to go. One of the greatest live acts of all time playing one of the greatest records of all time, in its entirety. Enough said. While this show is undoubtedly sold out, venture over to your friendly online ticket hub and find yourself a seat. It’ll be worth it.
May 6 – Mogwai @ The Commodore Ballroom
Post-rock band Mogwai rocks the Commodore with tracks off of their latest record Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will. One of the few bands that have mastered bridging the gap between obscenely heavy and anesthetically serene, the diverse and engaging arrangements will make for an enetertaining show.
May 8 – The Kills @ The Commodore Ballroom
On tour for their latest album Blood Pressures, The Kills return to Vancouver to play a sold out Commodore Ballroom. Probably one of the more anticipated rock shows of the year, both singer Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince employ lo-fi, minimalist rock on their favourably reviewed latest record, though have enough material from their acclaimed back catalogue to make for a great show. Again, make your way to any online ticket hub to pick up tickets.
