Although, come to think of it, how would one ever get their underwear in a twist in the first place? (Har, har, har.)In one way or another, the thought of fashion and design seem to absentmindedly go hand in hand with that of exterior clothing and seemingly, we forget life’s littlest wonders like underwear. Pushing aside commercial brands like Fruit of the Loom, Vancouverites are paving the way for sustainable fabrics that fashionably forefronts undergarments. “I could never find underwear that I was happy with” Satie explains as she laughs. “To me, there was always something missing so I decided to go into fashion, designing underwear and lingerie sleepwear.”Born and raised in India; mastering the use of the sewing machine, a once owner of a medical spa and now a fashion designer and firm yoga practitioner, Satie Shotta took her spiritual practice of meditation and fused it with her ambitions of designing; collectively creating Kaia And Me in early 2009.Derived from the Sanskrit meaning of ‘body’, “Kaia; embellishes the purest form of the existence” says Satie. “When studying Indian medicine, we incorporate the chakras, also known as the focal points of energies inflicting balance.” Incorporating the energies of the body from the crown meaning mind to the base of the body that which balances the energies of instinct and survival, you’ll find Satie uses bold hues of eco-friendly fabrics in blue, green, orange, purple and red that signify each focal point. “I use a lot of bright colors to symbolize the 7 chakras,” adds Satie. “Each color is a symbol for each energy.”In addition to offering a positive reinforcement of the mind and body, Kaia And Me also reinforces positive energy to the local community.
