Let’s get crafty: Dotty Logic

Jasonda Desmond stopped by our little booth at the Make It Fair in Spring. Turns out she’s the creator of… Dotty Logic! How did you get started with fabric design, and why fabric…Most of the design work I’ve done has been online – web graphics, logos and identity. I was searching for a creative project that would allow me to put my designs on something “real”. I have always been interested in fashion and interior design, so when I found out about digital fabric printing, it seemed like the perfect match because fabric is a really vital part of those two worlds.Business and creative goals? My business goal is a little silly – really, I’m doing this because it’s fun. I can’t imagine being able to put this much work into something if it wasn’t – for example, I have found myself spending 4 hours drawing seashells, going to cook dinner and then rushing back to draw yet more seashells afterward!I am really inspired by all the people who make gorgeous things out of fabric, so one of my biggest creative goals is to design fabric that is easy for people to use for a variety of projects. Everything from quilts to baby clothes, home decor to handbags… I think a lot of people buy fabric just because they love the design, and they don’t always have a project in mind right away, so I am all about making designs that can be used for lots of different things.Creative things that we can do with your fabrics…One of my favorite things to make is teacup pincushions. I love searching in thrift stores and antique shops for unique vintage teacups. Once I find one I like, I add a cushion made of my fabric, stuffed with eco-friendly polyfill. I sew a matching vintage button on top and secure it with glue inside the cup. It looks really cute and it’s an easy project that only takes an hour or so.Current projects..Right now I’m working on a custom fabric commission for a lady that makes gorgeous one-of-a-kind Christmas stockings. As soon as that’s finished, I’ll be starting to design my holiday fabric line – it’s hard to think of snow in the middle of June!
