Lamar Ashe is Louder Than Words
We got the opportunity to see R&B up-and-comer, Lamar Ashe, do his thing last Thursday at Killarney Secondary School. Lamar and labelmate, Heatwave, have been high school touring and performing strictly for the kids these past couple months. The backup of live instrumentation really added to the organic experience of it all. And despite the drab sound system, which I guess is expected from a high school auditorium, it was refreshing to see Lamar interact so effortlessly with the kids, entertaining them but still getting his message across nonetheless. They aren’t solely promoting their own music, but truly just trying to connect with the high schoolers, even bringing them up on stage to participate in contests and a good old fashioned b-boy cypher. They also recruited a grade 8 dance trio from Windermere Secondary to perform their own routine during the set. He’s been blessed, to say the least, and to be enlisted by Red1 and his Killawatt Record Label, Lamar is definitely not taking any of his success for granted. It’s obvious that the man remembers where he’s from while equally being ready to push it to the next level with his rookie album, Louder Than Words, on deck for a summer release.Press play on the video below to see our in-depth interview with Lamar about his humble beginnings, his tour, and of course, his music.Written by: JUSTIN LINTAGVideo by: ALEX YELIZAROV
