Jenny Kim Creative: A Whole New Angle

Jenny Kim

“As a kid I always had that love for art. Even with the most ordinary things around you, you start to think differently”.

It was quite difficult to categorize such a skillful artist when her skills pretty much covered all bases of art. From graphic design to illustrations and even photography, Jenny Kim speaks her mind through her art work –literally. With such a soft spoken voice and a modest persona, she has no problem allowing her talent to speak loudly for herself.Jenny Kim is a young artist who’s taking her first footsteps into Vancouver’s elite realm of art. This recent 2009 graduate of Capilano University’s IDEA (Illustration & Design: Elements & Applications) program had just finished humbly showcasing her work at Shine’s “An Awesome Showcase.” “I think I was found through boom blog… I submitted work for the visual arts category and I was surprised when I was contacted…” says Jenny Kim. This event was held during the Olympic break in Gastown to bring all of Vancouver’s artists and their beloved pieces under one roof. “Through these types of events that support the works of local artists, you definitely get a great opportunity not only to promote your work, but also to meet more of the local emerging artists out there.”Not only has Jenny’s work been chosen for showcased events, but it’s also been chosen for six, 2009 Applied Arts awards featured in the September issue of Applied Arts Magazine. And just to kick off a brand new year, in January her work was chosen to promote limited edition winter cups for Blenz Coffee; a large Canadian based coffee franchise. “It was an exciting opportunity and I learned a lot from it” says the rising freelance artist. “It feels great when I see my work out there.”And although determination will often always get you to where you strive to be, talent and passion can also play a huge role—in Jenny’s case that is. “As a kid I always had that love for art…” she says. “I was pretty determined to get into this industry.” Holding this talent down at an early age, she quickly grew more knowledgeable in creating her pieces. “You sort of train your eye to be better. Practice mimicking and emulating other peoples work to sort of develop your own style and pick up things you don’t normally see before. Even with the most ordinary things around you, you start to think differently.”And in Jenny’s world ordinary can turn into extraordinary. With illustrations so detailed it can paint a life’s story to photographs that can say more than a thousand words. Jenny Kim finds the simplest experiences and objects in her everyday life and carries a unique ability to sustain the images for future projects.Jenny Kim’s creations boast a whole new meaning into the world of artistic visualizations.
