The Frock Swap 4.0: Out with the’old’&in with the’new’

TheFrockSwap

” [it's like] borrowing clothes from your best friend’s closet, except in this case it’s more than 100 closets!”

If you’re logic is much like the average girl when it comes to clothes, than you must sit and stare at your closet for some few odd minutes and think one of two things – “I really need to go shopping” or “I really need to get rid of some stuff!”The Modline.com found your solution. (Sort of.)Marjolyn Ustaris and Danielle Ow of oncelovedthreads.com actually thought of it all. Bringing Vancouver shopaholics a whole new, smarter way of cleaning out and updating that closet with an event known as The Frock Swap.  It all started as a tiny idea says Danielle, “Marjolyn had wanted to do something different for her birthday and thought of doing a small clothing swap party but the response was great, so we had decided to open it to the public instead of just friends and about 70 people ended up attending. Because of the turn-out we ended up making it an annual event, and our attendee list keeps growing!”The Frock Swap is simple; you’re able to swift through piles of “once loved” articles of clothing, shoes and accessories, and if you like what you see, you take what you like. “When we see people walking out with items that used to be ours, it’s a little bit of an ego-boost and we love the fact that these pieces that we fell in love with are now someone else’s new love interest…someone’s trash is another person’s treasure!” says Marjolyn,  who encourages new swappers to think of it as, “borrowing clothes from your best friend’s closet, except in this case it’s more than 100 closets!”With a plethora of brand names to choose from like Betsy Johnson, Jacqueline Conoir and Diesel Jeans (just to name a few), it’s no wonder this event gets bigger and bigger each year. But that’s not all, while the girls from oncelovedthreads.com continue to help the environment and our wallets; Marjolyn and Danielle also make a point to give back to our community in another way even if some pieces are left behind. ”We’ve donated to a few different organizations in the past such as Women’s shelter, Covenant house, etc… for Frock Swap 4.0, we’d like to donate the leftover pieces to the survivors of the earthquakes in Haiti, Chile and Taiwan. “Now as they get set for their fourth Frock Swap on May 2nd, 2010 at the Box Studios, Marjolyn and Danielle just have a few pointers you should note:

  • Wear light clothing (t-shirts, leggings, shoes that can be slipped on and off).
  • Bring a re-usable shopping bag to hold your “swappables”

So get to it ladies, bag up those pieces you no longer wear and get your shop on; it’s out with the “old” and in with the “new”!Get a load of last year’s swap meet to see what you can expect this year:THE FROCK SWAP 3.0 from marjolyn on Vimeo.__________________________________________________________________________________________http://www.oncelovedthreads.com/the-frock-swap.html
